Is Hedera (HBAR) Quantum Proof?
Verdict
Hedera is not quantum-proof while accounts use classical Ed25519/ECDSA. Hashgraph consensus marketing does not replace PQC signatures.
Overview
Hedera combines a hashgraph consensus narrative with account-based services (crypto, tokens, consensus service). User and service authorization still depends on classical public-key cryptography in standard deployments.
Enterprise adopters should inventory keys the same way they inventory cloud KMS and PKI—not assume the consensus story grants quantum immunity.
Cryptographic profile
What breaks
- Classical signatures authorizing HBAR value movement under Shor-class adversaries once public keys are known
- Custodial hot wallets and exchange operational keys
- Bridges or wrapped representations with concentrated signers (if used)
Mitigations
- Inventory every key that can move HBAR (self-custody, exchange, multisig)
- Prefer multiparty / hardware policies for treasuries
- Document bridges and wrapped asset paths
- Track ecosystem PQC research; do not assume branding equals deployment
- Use /assessment and chain comparison hubs on this site for program framing
