Is Algorand (ALGO) Quantum Proof?
Verdict
Algorand is not automatically quantum-proof in production because of research papers alone. What matters is which algorithms authorize spends and consensus on mainnet today—verify, then reassess.
Overview
Algorand is known for pure proof-of-stake and for public research interest in post-quantum directions. Research and production enforcement are different bars.
Default educational stance: treat current account signatures as classical until your inventory proves otherwise for the software paths you use.
Cryptographic profile
- Signatures: Ed25519 for accounts; Algorand has also discussed PQ research—verify what is enforced on mainnet today
- Hash: Algorand protocol hashing
- Public-key exposure: Accounts public; participation keys for consensus nodes.
What breaks
- Classical signatures authorizing ALGO value movement under Shor-class adversaries once public keys are known
- Custodial hot wallets and exchange operational keys
- Bridges or wrapped representations with concentrated signers (if used)
Mitigations
- Inventory every key that can move ALGO (self-custody, exchange, multisig)
- Prefer multiparty / hardware policies for treasuries
- Document bridges and wrapped asset paths
- Track ecosystem PQC research; do not assume branding equals deployment
- Use /assessment and chain comparison hubs on this site for program framing
FAQ
Did Algorand already ship PQC everywhere?
Do not assume. Confirm release notes and wallet defaults for your version.
Why include ALGO in Wave 6a?
Top-L1 market presence and clear need for claim-vs-enforcement education.
