Hash-based signature

Also known as: hash-based signatures

Signatures built from hash functions (e.g. XMSS, LMS, SPHINCS+/SLH-DSA)—conservative PQ option.

Definition

Hash-based signatures rely on hash function properties rather than factoring or discrete logs. Some are stateful (XMSS/LMS); SLH-DSA is stateless.

They often have larger signatures but strong confidence assumptions relative to newer lattices for some risk appetites.
