BTC as an asset inherits Bitcoin’s signature risk. Good hygiene (no reuse, careful custody) reduces near-term exposure; it does not make the asset quantum-proof forever.
Overview
BTC is the unit of account on the Bitcoin chain. For holders, quantum risk is mostly about whether the keys that control your UTXOs are exposed and what policy governs those keys—not about hash rate charts alone.
Self-custody users can improve posture immediately with address hygiene and by understanding which outputs already published public keys. Custodians and exchanges concentrate risk: shared hot wallets, batching, and reused deposit addresses multiply exposure windows.

Should I move BTC because of quantum computers tomorrow?
This is educational, not advice. Cryptographically, panic moves can increase fees and operational errors. Hygiene and inventory are rational near-term steps; migration of the protocol itself is a multi-year governance problem.
Do hardware wallets make BTC quantum-proof?
Hardware wallets protect keys from many classical theft paths. They still sign with classical algorithms unless/until firmware and chain rules support PQC schemes.
