THORChain Cryptography & Quantum Risk Profile
Verdict
Profile view: THORChain is not quantum-proof. Cross-chain swaps inherit classical signatures on every connected chain plus THORChain node crypto.
Overview
This is the Wave 7e network/profile page for THORChain (l1).
THORChain enables native cross-chain swaps. Quantum risk multiplies across BTC, ETH, and other connected chains’ classical signatures plus RUNE node operations.
Liquidity providers must inventory both RUNE and connected-chain exposure.

Cryptographic profile
- Signatures: THORChain node TSS/threshold schemes as deployed (verify), User chain signatures on connected L1s (BTC, ETH, …)
- Hash: Cross-chain swap pipeline hashing
- Public-key exposure: Cross-chain liquidity; node sets and continuous liquidity pools concentrate risk.
- Verify THORChain node cryptography from primary docs.
What breaks
- Classical signatures authorizing RUNE value under Shor-class adversaries once public keys are known
- Custodial hot wallets and exchange operational keys
- Bridges, issuers, or operator sets outside ordinary user wallets
Mitigations
- Inventory every key that can move RUNE (self-custody, exchange, multisig, protocol roles)
- Name the host chain and bridge path for every balance
- Document operator/admin sets for L2s and apps
- Track ecosystem PQC research; branding is not deployment
- Use /assessment and claims methodology pages for program framing
FAQ
TSS = quantum-safe?
Threshold schemes improve ops; underlying math may still be classical—verify.
